23 Dead in Philippine Ferry Sinking in Aparri
Submitted by trashvin on Tue, 12/16/2008 - 12:57The Philippine Coast Guard reported 23 confirmed fatalities, 45 survivors and 32 persons still missing after a small motor boat capsized off the northern province of Cagayan.
The Coast Guard chief, Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, told local radio that the boat Maejan was authorised to carry 50 people—40 passengers and 10 crew—but had 100 onboard when big waves struck and it capsized in the Luzon Strait, off the village of Linao in Cagayan
