Aparri is a first class municipality in the province of Cagayan, Luzon, Philippines. Aparri sits at the mouth of the Cagayan River, the longest river in the country, about 55 miles north of Tuguegarao, the capital.

23 Dead in Philippine Ferry Sinking in Aparri

The Philippine Coast Guard reported 23 confirmed fatalities, 45 survivors and 32 persons still missing after a small motor boat capsized off the northern province of Cagayan.

The Coast Guard chief, Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, told local radio that the boat Maejan was authorised to carry 50 people—40 passengers and 10 crew—but had 100 onboard when big waves struck and it capsized in the Luzon Strait, off the village of Linao in Cagayan
